Tristan Peters has recently found himself in notable company after achieving a rare feat in baseball. On Tuesday, he joined a select group of Chicago White Sox players who have hit home runs in four consecutive games. This exclusive club includes legends like Paul Konerko, Jim Thome, and Harold Baines, as well as current teammate Colson Montgomery. Peters made his mark with a home run during the sixth inning of the Sox’s 11-7 victory over the Texas Rangers at Rate Field.
Heading into Wednesday’s series finale, Peters was one home run short of the franchise record of hitting in five straight games. Achieving this record places him among players such as Munetaka Murakami, A.J. Pierzynski, and more. Sox starter Anthony Kay praised Peters’s outstanding performance, noting that his hot streak strengthens the team’s lineup.
Elias Sports Bureau reports that Peters and Murakami are the only rookies in Sox history to record a streak of four or more home runs in the same season. Furthermore, Peters, Murakami, and Montgomery are the first trio since 1983 to record such streaks, highlighting its rarity.
Peters, who is 26 years old, began his streak with a home run against the New York Mets. The unusual play saw Mets outfielder Carson Benge collide with the fence, resulting in Peters’s ball bouncing off Benge’s glove and over the wall. Peters was amused by this unconventional home run, further cementing his memorable season.
The next day, Peters secured a 2-1 victory for the Sox with a walk-off home run. His performance continued into Monday’s game with another home run, providing vital offense amid an 11-2 loss to the Rangers. Tuesday added another home run to his record, contributing to a three-hit evening. Peters came close to hitting for the cycle for the second time this season, a feat first achieved in July against the Athletics.
Peters has become an asset to the team, tying for sixth place with 11 home runs. Third baseman Miguel Vargas has acknowledged Peters’s contributions, praising him as an All-Star and vital team member. Peters flies under the radar due to his lineup position, consistently delivering strong performances.
Peters has been exceptional in recent games, posting a .367/.466/.776 slash line over 18 games. Sox manager Will Venable commends Peters’s ability to read pitches and make smart decisions. OptaSTATS indicates that Peters joins a rare group in MLB history, achieving multiple remarkable feats in one season alongside legends Jimmie Foxx and Joe DiMaggio.
Peters reflects on his impressive season with gratitude, expressing his appreciation for his teammates and blessings.
