The Australian singer-songwriter Troye Sivan’s latest album, She’s the Best, marks an introspective phase in his musical journey. Released in 2023, Something to Give Each Other previously showed Sivan’s ability to turn choreographed singles into viral sensations. Tracks like “Rush” and “Got Me Started” not only captivated audiences but also secured his inaugural Grammy nominations. These songs even prompted a Timothée Chalamet and boygenius parody on Saturday Night Live.
Following this success, Sivan embarked on the Sweat tour, accompanied by Charli XCX, amid the buzz of “Brat” summer. Despite the excitement surrounding these achievements, Sivan reveals that this period didn’t fully capture his personal experiences as he approached the end of his twenties.
The album, She’s the Best, offers Sivan the opportunity to explore more profound emotions and honor the influential women in his life. During an interview with NPR Music reporter Isabella Gomez Sarmiento, Sivan discussed his shift away from conventional pop music. He expressed a desire to create an “unsexy” album that genuinely represents his feelings.
