President Trump’s approval rating has reached its lowest point, according to the latest New York Times/Siena poll. Historically, Trump has been noted for having solid support, but recent figures suggest a change.
The poll shows that only 37% of Americans approve of Trump’s performance as president. This represents a four-point decline from the previous Times/Siena poll conducted in January. The current approval rating is the lowest recorded for Trump in any Times/Siena survey over both of his terms.
While a four-percent drop might not seem significant, it places Trump in a challenging position politically. In the past 17 years, no president has maintained an approval rating below 38% for more than a few days, based on historical averages. Trump’s current ratings suggest he is at a critical point in volatile political times.
Recent issues such as the conflict in Iran and rising gas prices may further impact Trump’s ratings. The poll reveals that only 28% of Americans approve of his management of living costs, and 31% approve of his handling of the war. Additionally, just 30% believe he made the correct decision by attacking Iran.
For the upcoming midterm elections in November, this situation could prove advantageous for the Democrats. The poll indicates Democrats lead by over 10 points, with 50% of registered voters supporting the Democratic candidate compared to 39% for the Republicans. This is a shift from earlier Times/Siena polls, which showed a slimmer Democratic advantage of two to five points.
