Von Miller, a veteran pass rusher, joined the Washington Commanders on a one-year free-agent contract before the 2025 NFL season. Miller, now 37, had another offer from the Seattle Seahawks, the eventual Super Bowl winners. In contrast, his season with the Commanders ended with just five regular-season victories, falling short of playoff qualification.
During a recent episode of the ’89’ podcast hosted by Steve Smith and James Palmer, Miller openly acknowledged his decision error during free agency. “Obviously, I picked the wrong team on that one,” Miller stated.
Miller had believed the Commanders, particularly with promising rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, had a stronger shot at a Super Bowl title. The Commanders reached the NFC Championship game the year prior to Miller’s signing. However, the team’s aspirations were impacted by widespread injuries in 2025.
Despite his choice, the 2024 season outcomes fueled Miller’s optimism. The Seahawks missed the playoffs that year, further justifying his original decision. Miller explained, “For me, with the Washington Commanders, I just felt like Jayden Daniels was poised for another great season. His rookie season went all the way to the NFC Championship, and last year, he got hit with injuries, not just at the quarterback position, but all over the place. And those are some of the things that you just can’t calculate on teams.”
As the 2026 NFL season approaches, Miller remains an unsigned free agent, contemplating the next step in his football career.
