The White House recently took down a Tetris-inspired online arcade game due to a copyright dispute. The game, named Build the Wall, mimicked the classic Tetris block-stacking style. It came under scrutiny after The Tetris Company filed a copyright threat against its use.
In an online arcade launched last week, the White House introduced several games reflecting political themes associated with President Donald Trump’s agenda. Among them were Supply Line, which involves sorting school lunches for healthiness, and Rio Run, where players participate in border patrol simulations.
By Wednesday morning, the controversial game Build the Wall was removed from the White House’s Arcade section. The Tetris Company informed Newsweek they did not participate in developing Build the Wall, nor did they authorize any use of the Tetris brand or its intellectual property in the game.
“For more than 40 years, Tetris has connected people of different generations and cultures through joy and play,” stated The Tetris Company. “The essence of the game is to stack with purpose, clearing lines strategically. We are examining the situation.”
The Tetris Company reaffirmed their stance by sharing a post on Instagram. They emphasized their lack of involvement with Build the Wall and underscored their commitment to protecting their copyright.
