The White House has requested Kimberly Guilfoyle to step down from her role as the U.S. Ambassador to Greece. This follows reports of alleged misconduct.
During her first briefing, new White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed the request for Guilfoyle’s resignation. She stated, “We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well.”
Guilfoyle, aged 57, has been serving in the diplomatic position since November 2025. She is a former partner of Donald Trump Jr. and was previously married to California Governor Gavin Newsom.
Recent controversy surrounds Guilfoyle after accusations emerged that she requested money from Eric Deters, a long-time ally of the Trump family. The Wall Street Journal reported that she allegedly asked Deters to cover her large American Express bill in exchange for access to the administration. In one message revealed by Deters, Guilfoyle wrote, “Honey please I need you to get this done for me today.”
However, her legal representatives, David Schwartz and Jesse Binnall, refuted these claims. They stated that the funds were related to payment for services, such as speaking engagements and public appearances, conducted prior to her ambassadorial nomination. According to their two-page statement released on October 12, Deters owes Guilfoyle around $150,000 for those services.
“Ambassador Guilfoyle has served, and will continue to serve, with integrity, honor, and distinction. We are evaluating all available legal remedies to collect this debt and any other potential causes of action,”
the lawyers commented.
Vice President JD Vance addressed the allegations last week, urging for the facts to be established first. He said, “These are allegations… let’s actually see what the facts are, let’s see what the truth is. And obviously if there was something bad that happened, then people have to suffer consequences for it.”
President Trump also responded to the situation, stating on Monday that he was “looking at” the possibility of dismissing Guilfoyle, adding, “we are not happy.”
This situation is ongoing, and updates are expected.
