During the latest airing of “Friday Night SmackDown,” the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship saw a surprising change. Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid of Fatal Influence were ready to defend their titles against Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley. However, an unexpected backstage attack on Flair prevented her participation. Jade Cargill, Michin, and B-Fab were responsible for the ambush, altering the landscape of the anticipated match.
In Flair’s absence, Alexa Bliss stepped in. The match initially favored Henley and Reid, who seemed poised to win through questionable means. Henley tried to pin Paxley using the ropes and Reid for extra leverage. The referee caught this attempt and stopped the count.
Taking advantage of a distracted Reid, Bliss executed the Sister Abigail move, leaving Reid incapacitated. Henley, momentarily distracted, fell victim to Paxley’s Cemetery Drive maneuver. This secured Paxley and Bliss the win and the championship titles.
The victory was celebrated in the ring by Bliss and Paxley, while Henley and Reid were left in disbelief. Their reign as champions lasted 83 days, earning the titles during a previous event in July by defeating Brie Bella and Paige.
For Paxley, this marks her first title on the main roster. She’s fresh off a successful tenure in NXT, where she held several championships. Her SmackDown debut was in August, making an immediate impact alongside Bliss and Flair against the disruptive trio of Cargill, Michin, and B-Fab.
Bliss, now a five-time tag team champion, has previously held the tag title alongside Flair, Asuka, and Nikki Cross.
