Xander Schauffele is set to enjoy the upcoming weekend in New England, a change from his recent experience in the Hamptons. The PGA Tour heads to TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, for the Travelers Championship. This event is known for being player-friendly compared to the challenging U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.
At the U.S. Open, only three players managed to finish under par. In contrast, the Travelers Championship offers lower scores. Scottie Scheffler’s victory at 22-under after a playoff, and Jim Furyk’s 58 round are notable. Schauffele, the 2022 Travelers winner, expressed his excitement about returning. He shared with Fox News Digital that he didn’t even mind the rain during practice.
While Schauffele expects lower scores, he acknowledges the course has become more challenging. He noted, “There’s plenty of tricky spots where you feel like you’re supposed to pick shots up and sometimes you don’t.” Despite the tougher course, he finds enjoyment in the game, emphasizing the importance of getting in the zone.
Apart from the course layout, the Travelers Championship prides itself on behind-the-scenes elements that enhance the experience for players. Schauffele praised the event for its hospitality, mentioning the quality food, coffee, and gifts that make players feel welcomed.
The tournament starts Thursday morning, with Schauffele paired with Collin Morikawa at 10:55 a.m. ET. The event promises to be a favorite among players, offering a blend of challenging play and exceptional hospitality.
