An incident involving a traveler at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, California, took place on October 6. A man from Everett, Washington, caused chaos by operating an airport tug on the airfield.
Video footage shows the individual driving the tug dangerously close to an aircraft. Authorities identified him as a 26-year-old who was supposed to fly from John Wayne Airport to Seattle on a Delta Air Lines flight. The incident began around 5:30 p.m. when the man gained unauthorized access through Gate 12.
Delta stated their zero-tolerance policy for such behavior and confirmed full cooperation with law enforcement. The man initially accessed the tarmac and allegedly took an Alaska Airlines tug meant for moving equipment. He was seen driving around recklessly, even reversing near a plane.
According to John Wayne Airport, there were no operational impacts due to this event. The man stole an Alliance Ground International baggage tug assigned to Alaska Airlines and crashed it into another vehicle by Gate 7. He then attempted to steal an American Airlines lavatory truck before being apprehended by Airport Police Services.
The individual was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. Despite his unauthorized actions, airport operations remained unaffected. He faced charges of vehicle theft, trespassing, and vandalism.
In another unusual incident previously reported by Fox News, a man in Hungary allegedly took a Cessna 172 from Kalocsa Airport while under the influence. He flew near Hungary’s only nuclear plant, prompting military jets to respond. He eventually landed in a sunflower field.
These incidents highlight security challenges and the importance of stringent safety measures at airports.
