Virginia’s Violation of Federal Voting Law for 150 Years
For over a century, Virginia contravened a federal law that prohibits the widespread disenfranchisement of individuals with felony convictions. This conclusion was reached by a federal judge recently.
Son Huynh plans to participate in the upcoming election in November. He shared his experiences after serving time for a felony with a reporter but requested anonymity in photographs as he works to rebuild his life.
Before his conviction, Huynh was consistently involved in the electoral process. Raised in California, he learned about the importance of voting during his school years. His family, having emigrated from Vietnam, instilled in him the significance of this right. Voting held a special meaning for him.
