Republican Michigan Senate candidate Mike Rogers criticized Democratic opponent Abdul El-Sayed during a town hall alongside Fox News host Sean Hannity. Rogers cautioned voters that El-Sayed’s policies could harm the state, accusing him of being deceptive and manufactured. He claimed El-Sayed supports extreme measures like defunding the police and releasing criminals from prison.
Rogers argued that El-Sayed backs the Green New Deal, which he described as detrimental to Michigan. He emphasized the success of his campaign’s grassroots efforts, citing nearly 6 million doors knocked by volunteers statewide. According to Rogers, many voters are expressing their commitment to preventing the state from embracing Democratic Socialism.
Furthermore, Rogers noted that some traditionally Democratic voters are showing support for his campaign. During the event, he fielded questions from constituents, including concerns about safety expressed by a Jewish woman fearing to display her religious identity. Rogers shared similar anecdotes from Jewish students at the University of Michigan who experienced harassment.
Rogers also discussed initiatives focused on housing, education, and skilled trades. He proposed making home-buying easier for young people and enhancing defense industry jobs in Michigan. Additionally, he called for bringing shop classes back to high schools to provide more career opportunities through skilled-trade education.
In his closing remarks, Rogers reiterated his critique of El-Sayed’s policies, warning that Michigan cannot bear them. He emphasized the risk posed by El-Sayed’s ideology. Attempts to reach El-Sayed’s campaign for comment were unsuccessful.
