The San Antonio Spurs secured a crucial victory in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, defeating the New York Knicks 115-111 at Madison Square Garden. This win ended the home team’s perfect record in their arena and snapped the Knicks’ 13-game playoff win streak. Despite this setback, New York still leads the series 2-1.
The Spurs’ victory was attributed to solid defense and timely offensive plays, particularly in the fourth quarter. They held the Knicks to a mere 2-of-12 from three-point range during this period. Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 32 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, bouncing back from a crucial missed shot in Game 2. His teammates, De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle, also contributed with decisive baskets.
San Antonio showed determination to control the game from the onset. By the end of the first quarter, they led by 11 points. Wembanyama scored nine points on 4-of-6 shooting, while Castle achieved a perfect 3-of-3 from the field.
The Knicks, known for mounting comebacks, quickly closed the gap. By halftime, they had a seven-point lead, with OG Anunoby scoring 17 points on an impressive 5-of-6 shooting, including two three-pointers. Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart also added crucial points.
However, the Spurs regained control in the second half by forcing turnovers and capitalizing on them. By the end of the third quarter, the teams were in a tight battle for supremacy.
Heading into the final quarter, the Spurs managed to maintain their lead, benefiting from the Knicks’ foul troubles. Wembanyama capitalized on free throws, giving the Spurs a buffer. As the Knicks attempted a late-game rally, their shooting went cold at critical moments.
Castle and Fox helped secure the Spurs’ win with crucial plays in the final moments. Castle’s three-pointer in a contested situation was a critical blow to the Knicks’ comeback efforts. While Anunoby made a late three-pointer to keep the Knicks close, Castle sealed the game with two key free throws.
The game had notable attendees, including President Donald Trump, seen with Knicks owner James Dolan. His presence required increased security measures throughout Madison Square Garden. Game 4 is set to begin at the same venue, with tip-off scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
