Amazon has unveiled two innovative AI devices designed to assist users by capturing conversations and generating notes. The first product, known as the Bee Frontier, is a silicone wristband that can be affixed to clothing and is priced at $74.99. Additionally, Amazon introduced the Bee Eclipse, a device similar in size to a credit card, which attaches magnetically to the back of a phone and is available for $99.99.
Engineered by Bee, a company specializing in AI wearables that Amazon acquired last year, these gadgets are equipped with microphones that enable them to transcribe meetings and everyday interactions. This functionality allows users to document meaningful moments without manual input. Both devices can offer tailored goals and activities based on transcribed conversations, as stated by Amazon.
An example of their utility includes summarizing a phone call planning a vacation. The Bee Frontier or Bee Eclipse can compile key details, such as flight schedules or hotel bookings. The devices can also integrate with other applications like Gmail, Google Calendar, and Microsoft Outlook, facilitating the drafting of follow-up emails or creating calendar invitations based on conversations.
A connection to Amazon’s Alexa+ and Amazon.com is possible, providing users with conversation summaries and recaps for free, with a 14-day memory retention. For enhanced functionalities, including Alexa+ integration and personalized to-do suggestions, users can opt for a Bee Pro subscription at $11.99 monthly.
Amazon assures strong privacy features, highlighting that data access is exclusively granted upon user sharing. Audio recordings are erased after transcription to ensure privacy.
The introduction of Bee devices targets the expansive market for AI-powered consumer gadgets. Recent announcements from Meta, touting their Muse AI assistant, and other tech giants including Microsoft, OpenAI, and Samsung, demonstrate a competitive landscape for such technologies.
