Pro Wrestling: A Grueling Sport
Professional wrestling stands as one of the most demanding sports globally. With countless wrestlers striving to rise from obscurity to recognition, it’s a fierce battle for fame.
The Challenge of Running a Wrestling Promotion
Managing a wrestling promotion and organizing a show present unique hurdles. Dono Hefner, a rising figure in independent wrestling, intends to conquer these challenges.
Dono Hefner: The Independent Standout
At 20, Dono Hefner identifies himself as the “most OverAF independent professional wrestler” today. He plans to host the event Too Over To Care in Washington, D.C., on February 27, 2027.
In a recent conversation with OutKick Dropkick, Hefner expressed ambitions to attract attention to his event, aiming remarks at former WWE star JTG, now Jay Tha Gawd, whom he labeled “soft.” Despite the confrontational approach, Hefner shows enthusiasm for the hurdles his own show will present.
Facing the Pressure
“What made me want to start is that I like to challenge myself most of the time. I like to be under pressure.”
Asserting confidence in his wrestling abilities, Hefner chooses to elevate the stakes by managing his own show. His goal is to provide opportunities for wrestlers often stifled by industry politics.
According to Hefner, the wrestling world harbors significant political barriers, limiting opportunities for many. His mission extends beyond his personal ambitions, aiming to benefit the broader wrestling community.
Challenges in Show Management
One difficulty Hefner encounters while planning his event is declining inclusion requests.
“Telling certain people no because you can’t put you know everyone on a card. That’s really it because once a new show comes around everybody wants to be on it.”
Despite such challenges, Hefner reports smooth progress, noting ample time remains for preparation.
Exciting Lineup and Aspirations
Performers such as Jay Lucas and Terry Yaki, known as Top Team, and Chulo Montana and Ykies, known as Sexy & Blessed, are slated for the show.
Hefner’s ambitions include a potential match against independent wrestling icon Joey Janela, envisioning significant exposure following such a matchup.
“My dream match on the indies would be against Joey Janela.”
For now, Hefner focuses on gaining increased recognition among wrestling enthusiasts leading to his event.
