The resignation of Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has added to the ongoing shifts in Pentagon leadership. This follows alleged policy disagreements. President Donald Trump has appointed Adam Telle as the acting secretary in response to these developments. Fox News correspondent Lucas Tomlinson details the situation.
The ‘Fox News Sunday’ panel has examined these changes, discussing the impact on U.S. military supply levels and the U.S. naval blockade. Additionally, Pete Hegseth, the War Secretary, has removed a senior strategic planner from the Pentagon amidst allegations of leaking classified information to journalists.
Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia is accused of failing three polygraph tests. The alleged leaks involve sensitive topics like the Iran war and Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
The Justice Department is now looking into the matter. Sylvia allegedly met with journalists outside the Pentagon to leak information, which violated Hegseth’s new media restrictions.
Fox News Digital attempted to contact the DOJ and Sylvia for comments but did not receive a response before publication. Sylvia previously held the role of director of the Joint Staff’s Directorate for Strategy, Plans, and Policy, known as the J5, which has been sidelined since the spring.
Sylvia was not responsible for planning the Iran conflict. This task falls under U.S. Central Command and its commander, Adm. Brad Cooper. The Atlantic first reported Sylvia’s removal, citing loss of confidence in him due to tensions with Pentagon policy chief Elbridge Colby.
This marks the second high-ranking officer removed from the J5 by Hegseth, following Lt. Gen. John McGee. Earlier this year, Hegseth also removed Lt. Gen. Douglas Sims, then director of the Joint Staff.
The Pentagon reportedly considers renewed military action against Iran. U.S. officials have alerted Middle Eastern allies to prepare for potential renewed strikes and possible Iranian responses. Additional U.S. forces are currently being deployed in the region.
Sylvia, a 1994 West Point graduate, served over 30 years in the Army. His deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan have left him wounded in combat. Before leading the J5, he commanded the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell and served as the J5’s vice director.
Sylvia’s removal is a part of a broader reorganization within senior military leadership under Hegseth. Nearly two dozen generals and admirals have been fired or have left during this tumultuous period.
