The Atlanta Falcons’ quarterback situation has been under close scrutiny. During the offseason, injuries played a major role, with Cooper Rush stepping in temporarily. Stability seemed restored when Michael Penix Jr. returned, only to face another challenge.
Penix sustained a rib injury in a game against the Baltimore Ravens. Despite briefly returning, he couldn’t continue in overtime, leading Tua Tagovailoa to step in. Tagovailoa’s interception ended the game, adding uncertainty to Penix’s availability for the upcoming match against the Chicago Bears.
After an MRI, Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski indicated Penix is on track to start Sunday, assuming no setbacks. Penix participated in practice as a limited participant.
Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley leads the Baltimore Ravens to an improbable overtime win over the Atlanta Falcons.
Stefanski provided minimal details about Penix’s injury but noted he is “feeling better.” ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentioned the injury might not be long-term. Penix’s practice involvement depends on his condition, according to Stefanski.
Penix reported feeling good at practice, emphasizing the importance of maintaining his rehab routine. His injury history includes an ACL injury last November, impacting his availability at the start of the season.
The Chicago Bears also have uncertainty with star Caleb Williams, who is recovering from a hamstring injury. Bears coach Ben Johnson confirmed Williams was a full participant in the latest injury report.
