Bobby Pulido’s Congressional Run Focuses on Inflation and Affordability
In an interview from 2010, Bobby Pulido, a Latin Grammy winner and now a Democratic congressional candidate, shared his experience of not going shopping since his music career took off. The singer, famed for Tejano songs such as “Desvelado” and “Se Murió de Amor,” has been nominated five times for Latin Grammy Awards and won Best Tejano Album in 2022 and 2025.
Pulido is currently running for Congress in Texas’ 15th district, a competitive seat after a state redistricting plan. His campaign contrasts with his past statements about not handling household shopping, as his platform centers on affordability for constituents. The messaging highlights issues like inflation and high gas prices—critiques of President Donald Trump’s administration policies.
“The economy we care about is not a bunch of numbers and letters flashing on a board on Wall Street,” Pulido’s campaign page states. “It’s in our pockets, at the pump, in the grocery store when we buy fajitas, milk, and eggs.”
The inflation rate increased from 3.8% in April to 4.2% in May, impacting Pulido’s district, which he describes as having one of the state’s lowest per-capita incomes. “Inflation really hurts us harder,” Pulido remarked on his podcast, expressing the economic strain felt throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
Running against incumbent Republican Monica De La Cruz, Pulido emphasizes attracting bipartisan support. De La Cruz, who won 57.1% of the vote to Michelle Vallejo’s 42.9% in 2024, will be Pulido’s opponent in the upcoming election.
Having secured the Democratic primary, Pulido is campaigning vigorously in preparation for the November 3rd election, aiming to harness concerns over expense mismanagement by the current administration.
