California Tax Hikes Fueling Resident Exodus
California Democrats are proposing significant tax increases, targeting areas like private health insurance, software purchases, wealth, and income. Larry Kudlow highlights these extensive tax hikes, suggesting they contribute to the state’s population decline.
Steve Moore points out that in the past 10 to 11 years, nearly two million residents have left California, citing high taxes as a major reason for their departure. Residents are reportedly ‘voting with their feet’ to escape these policies.
“Vote with their feet” warns Moore as taxes drive residents away.
British actress Lesley-Anne Down is among those who have left California, blaming the state’s continuous wildfires and liberal politics for her move to Georgia. After decades in southern California, she and her family sought refuge in the peace of suburban countryside outside Atlanta.
Down, famous for her roles in “The Pink Panther Strikes Again” (1976) and “The Great Train Robbery” (1978), now enjoys feeding deer instead of facing California’s changing landscape. While remembering the beauty of Malibu’s beaches and nature, she expresses dissatisfaction with the increasing frequency of wildfires.
“It began to change — the people and, quite frankly, the fires.” reflects Down.
She recalls numerous evacuations, particularly during the devastating Woolsey fire in 2018, leading to her decisive move. The choice to leave wasn’t just about fires, but also rising discontent with California’s political shift.
Down points out the growing political correctness that she finds restrictive, claiming America is following Britain’s path eight to ten years later. She endorses Steve Hilton for governor, describing him as a smart leader who can address these concerns.
Her politics, according to Down, limit her opportunities in the entertainment industry, forcing her to adjust her public image or face professional challenges. Despite her political views being apparent, she remains active when roles align with her principles.
Lesley-Anne Down’s role as Margaret Thatcher in the biopic “Reagan” in 2024 was a brief return to Hollywood, with the production’s traditional approach aligning with her values.
“‘Reagan’ was very much ‘old school.’” remembers Down.
Releasing in more theaters in September 2025, it highlights her preference for projects reminiscent of past standards in the industry.
Down has settled in Georgia, embracing an unpretentious life with engaging neighbors and enjoying familiar community bonds. She fondly interacts with local wildlife, preferring peace over Malibu’s challenges.
Critics of California, including Kevin Sorbo, echo Down’s sentiments, expressing frustration with ongoing issues like taxes, population density, and divisive politics. They argue that differing opinions are twisted into extreme views, limiting open discussions and driving residents toward alternatives.
Lesley-Anne Down’s move, influenced by fires, politics, and familial priorities, represents a broader trend of dissatisfaction leading to exodus from California.
