In Los Angeles, on the night of the Fourth of July, tens of thousands gathered at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum. They came to see Chris Stapleton perform alongside an eclectic mix of artists at a benefit concert. The event, organized by America250, featured headliners like Smashing Pumpkins, Chaka Khan, Maren Morris, and Queen Latifah.
Tickets for the concert were sold at $17.76, with proceeds directed to Feeding America, a notable hunger-relief organization. America250 is a bipartisan commission formed by Congress to plan for the United States’ 250th birthday celebrations. Chair Rosie Rios emphasized the non-political nature of the event, in contrast to a similar initiative by Freedom 250, which faced setbacks due to bad weather in Washington D.C.
Stapleton opened his set by declaring he wouldn’t waste time with political talk. His performance included songs like “Bad as I Used to Be” and “Millionaire,” which he performed with his wife, Morgane. He ended with “Tennessee Whiskey,” a classic embraced by fans.
The Smashing Pumpkins brought their ’90s alt-rock sound to the patriotic setting. Chaka Khan, dubbed “legendary” on the concert poster, delivered powerful renditions of hits including “Ain’t Nobody” and “I’m Every Woman.” Maren Morris’s set transitioned from her electronic hit “The Middle” to the soulful “My Church.”
Queen Latifah served as the host and shared messages of American idealism. She also performed her anthem “U.N.I.T.Y.” to enthusiastic applause, highlighting themes of respect and unity. The overall mood of the concert reflected a rare gathering of diverse people coming together for music and celebration.
