Elgin Ranks as a Top Place to Live
According to U.S. News & World Report, Elgin is the sixth-best place to live in Illinois. The evaluation considered factors such as value, quality of life, desirability, and job market strength. Elgin’s population is approximately 116,000. The median home price is around $280,000, while rent averages $1,200 per month. The city’s median household income surpasses $94,000. Elgin’s job market aligns with other cities of a similar size.
The magazine also ranked Elgin as the 23rd best medium-sized city in the U.S., 74th overall in the country, and 217th for retirement.
Elgin’s Kids United Program Begins Registration
The Elgin Police Department has opened registration for the Kids United program, scheduled from June 22 to August 11 at Abbott Middle School, 949 Van St., Elgin. This free initiative offers art, sports, cooking, swimming, and life skills lessons. Food will be available. Open to residents of Elgin and Elgin Township and students from School District U-46. Sessions are from 3 to 5:30 p.m. for children entering grades 4 to 6, and from 6:30 to 9 p.m. for those entering grades 7 to 12.

Huffman Tennis Courts Undergoing Renovations
The Huffman Park tennis courts at 811 Tartans Drive, West Dundee, are closed for repairs due to unsafe surface conditions. The renovation is expected to finish by fall and will include converting some space for pickleball courts. Open courts are available at Grafelman Park, Lions Park, and Sleepy Hollow Park. Grafelman and Lions Parks offer pickleball play lines as well.
STC Live! Offers Free Music in St. Charles
STC Live!, a free summer music series, will hold performances twice weekly at First Street Plaza in downtown St. Charles and various local businesses. Starting Wednesday, June 3, the series features over 35 acts with shows on Wednesdays and Fridays at 6 p.m. until September 28. The opening night includes performances by Matt Keen at The Office Dining & Spirits and Leslie Hunt at First Street Plaza.

Flag Day Celebration in Batavia
Batavia will celebrate Flag Day on June 14. This marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Activities start at 1 p.m. in the Batavia City Council chambers, featuring a display of flags from the Revolutionary War to modern times. A flag-raising ceremony at 2:45 p.m. will take place at the Flag Day Monument on the Riverwalk.
Attendees will experience live performances by the Batavia Community Band, a poster contest, and a celebration of veterans and first responders. Newly installed Liberty Education Plaza will have its ribbon-cutting, and a human flag formation will occur in the parking lot west of the government center.
