Rep. Madeleine Dean, D-Pa., stated during a segment on “News Central” that Graham Platner has “disqualified himself” from Maine’s U.S. Senate race. Responding to co-anchor Boris Sanchez’s query about her support for the Democratic candidate’s campaign, Dean expressed dismay at the revelations surrounding Platner and his actions.
The details emerged after Lyndsey Fifield, Platner’s former girlfriend, accused him of physical aggression during their relationship. Fifield shared her experiences with The New York Times, alleging Platner grabbed her forcibly, pulled her from a cab, and once twisted her arm to restrain her in a room. Platner rejected these broader allegations when speaking to the Associated Press, suggesting they are politically motivated.
Additional scrutiny has arisen around Platner due to past controversies. These include sending sexually explicit texts to married women, possessing a tattoo with Nazi symbolism, and questionable Reddit posts. In response, Platner acknowledged personal mistakes while apologizing for some past actions.
Meanwhile, Maine Gov. Janet Mills remains on the Democratic primary ballot despite suspending her active campaign. Voters can still opt for Mills as she hasn’t formally withdrawn from the race, according to Maine’s deputy secretary of state.
During the interview, Dean also addressed foreign policy and immigration. She criticized the Trump administration’s diplomatic efforts with Iran and emphasized the need for greater emphasis on diplomatic approaches. Dean warned against unfrozen Iranian assets without substantial concessions.
In terms of immigration, Dean called for opposition to the proposed $1.8 billion fund for immigration enforcement, stating that ICE should not receive additional funding.
The ongoing controversies and comments are shaping the discourse leading up to Maine’s Senate primary. Fox News Digital reached out to Platner for comment, but he had not responded by press time.
