An 86-year-old woman in West Virginia, Pauline Ferrell Monk, realized her long-held dream when a Taco Bell finally opened in her hometown of Sissonville. Pauline, dubbed the ‘Taco Bell Queen,’ often wondered if she would live to see the restaurant open.
The Dream and Efforts
Pauline had hoped for years for a Taco Bell in her town. Her son worked tirelessly to bring the franchise to Sissonville. One day, he told Pauline that the restaurant would finally open, bringing her immense joy.
“I was always wanting a Taco Bell here in this little town of Sissonville,” she said.
A Sudden Challenge
Amid her excitement, Pauline faced unexpected news. Her doctor diagnosed her with stage 4 cancer after she fell ill. She received the sobering news that she might only have a few months left.
As construction of the Taco Bell progressed, Pauline questioned whether she would live to see it open.
“Is the Lord going to let me stay here long enough to be able to see that Taco Bell open?”
The Opening Day
Construction finished soon, and on opening day, Pauline was brought in early for a celebration. Her son, an advocate for the restaurant, cut the ribbon, and Pauline’s presence turned the event into a heartfelt occasion.
Residents embraced her with chants of ‘Taco Bell Queen,’ turning Pauline into a local legend and an internet sensation.
Pauline enjoys her time at the restaurant, often ordering a Nachos BellGrande or a chicken quesadilla with cinnamon twists for dessert.
A Lifetime of Giving
Pauline’s story extends beyond fast food. Growing up with seven siblings, she has always embraced giving. She spent years baking pies for her church and community.
“Since I’ve been a young girl, I’ve always attended church and been a Christian over the years,” she shared.
This kindness is now being reciprocated, with Pauline receiving generous support from her community and church members.
The Present and Future
Supported by her husband and family, Pauline remains peaceful, relying on her faith as her health declines. Doctors advised against chemotherapy due to her age, and the cancer has since spread to her lungs.
“I feel like when he’s ready for me to come home, he’ll take me, and I’m ready to go,” Pauline stated.
She focuses on spreading positivity and gratitude, thankful for the love she receives.
Pauline’s story of perseverance and community affection continues to inspire many, celebrated as the beloved ‘Taco Bell Queen.’
