Gage Park Woman’s Death Under Police Investigation
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the death of a Gage Park woman following her demise over a week after an apparent domestic battery and fall. The deceased, Maria Delgado, aged 54, was in the hospital since October 9 as a result of an accident at an unspecified event.
During the ambulance ride to the hospital, Delgado engaged in a dispute with a 58-year-old male regarding the incident. The altercation escalated, leading the man to strike Delgado across the face in Chicago’s West Elsdon neighborhood, specifically in the 3900 block of West 58th Street, according to law enforcement.
The man was subsequently detained at the hospital and brought up on charges with a misdemeanor count of domestic battery. Delgado succumbed to her injuries last Saturday afternoon at Stroger Hospital, as corroborated by both police and the Cook County medical examiner.
The medical examiner’s office announced on Tuesday that the definitive cause of Delgado’s death remains undetermined, pending outcomes from the ongoing police inquiry and further examinations. Chicago police stated that detectives from the Wentworth Area are actively pursuing leads.
