Hillary Clinton Comments on Graham Platner’s Candidacy Amid Controversies
Hillary Clinton, former Secretary of State, recently addressed the candidacy of Maine Democratic Senate hopeful Graham Platner without explicitly endorsing him. Speaking at 92NY, she mentioned, “I feel about him the way I feel about any candidate. I want to see what kind of candidate he actually turns out to be.”
Clinton referred to Platner’s controversies as “bumps on the road,” indicating they impacted his character. The bumps on the road that he has experienced and some of the things he has said…
she noted, prompting a skeptical response from New Yorker editor David Remnick, who asked for clarification. Clinton reiterated, “Yeah, clearly bumps on the road in terms of his prior behavior, some of his prior statements.”
She acknowledged the competitiveness of the race against Maine Senator Susan Collins, stating, “I served with Susan Collins, she is going to be very hard to beat. It’s going to be a tough election. So I’m reserving.” When asked if she would support Platner as a voter in Maine, she replied, “I’m not a Mainer. I’m a New Yorker.”
Clinton then emphasized the Democratic Party’s aim to regain control of the House of Representatives by 2026. Meanwhile, Platner’s campaign faces several controversies, ranging from inappropriate messages and social media posts to a Nazi-linked tattoo and issues with campaign staff.
Recent reports, such as one from the New York Times, detailed further allegations of violent behavior and questionable conduct with ex-girlfriends. Despite these challenges, some Democratic figures continue to stand by Platner’s candidacy, while others reserve judgment.
