Rep. Ilhan Omar’s husband, Tim Mynett, was spotted entering their shared Washington, D.C., home following an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). The federal probe focuses on Omar’s immigration status and her financial disclosures. Mynett, seen with a yellow Labrador, returned home after an early morning raid conducted by federal agents on Monday.
The investigation aims to examine alleged discrepancies in immigration documents and financial records. Two sources connected to the HSI inquiry indicate a suspected criminal fraud case regarding Omar’s immigration paperwork, initially processed by her late father when she was a child. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro stated that her office has commenced an examination into the financial disclosures following the conclusion of the Office of Congressional Conduct’s earlier inquiry in September.
Omar’s financial controversies became prominent with a 2024 report estimating her assets alongside Mynett to range between $6 million and $30 million. Notable changes in Mynett’s asset declarations, particularly in his winery and venture capital advisory firm, went from millions to zero. The disclosures previously valued his equity at the winery between $1 million and $5 million and his venture capital firm between $5 million and $25 million.
Omar’s office explained to Fox News Digital that Mynett’s business partnerships were inaccurately reported, initially reflecting total business equity instead of only his ownership shares. Assets were also listed without deducting liabilities. Mynett, involved in her 2020 re-election campaign, and Omar married in March 2020.
This marks Omar’s third marriage, though allegations about her first marriage, potentially involving a familial relationship, have sparked past controversies. Critics propose that this marriage circumvented U.S. immigration laws. Recent statements clarify legal constraints due to the statute of limitations regarding investigations into those claims.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) spokesperson confirmed that the federal investigation warranted Monday’s search of Omar’s residence. This follows an announcement by the White House border czar Tom Homan about a federal investigation, possibly linked to past immigration-related allegations against Omar.
