Jalen Brunson’s Focus Amid Knicks’ Historic Comeback
San Antonio — In a remarkable Game 4 of the NBA Finals, the New York Knicks made history with the greatest comeback in the championship round. Despite the team’s 3-1 lead against the San Antonio Spurs, Knicks guard Jalen Brunson remains focused. Brunson repeatedly stressed that the team approaches the series as if it’s tied “0-0.”
Brunson emphasized accountability among teammates, telling NBC News, “As a team, you have to hold each other accountable. Whatever’s being said, positive or negative, you can’t really think about or worry about too much.” With their first NBA title since 1973 within reach, he stays focused on his role. Regarding fans’ expectations, he added, “The fans are going to be the fans, but for us, we got to do our jobs.”
After an emotional win in Game 4, where the Knicks overcame a 29-point deficit for a 107-106 victory, Brunson remains composed. He was instrumental, scoring 36 points and making decisive shots in the fourth quarter. With this win, the Knicks improved to 2-0 in games this postseason when trailing by 20 or more in the final quarter.
Brunson reflected on the team’s resilience, stating, “First of all, it’s a position that we really don’t want to be in, but we just keep fighting. Now we’re going to continue giving it everything we got. Even if we don’t win Game 4, I feel like the habits that got us back into the game could have carried over into Game 5.”
He underlined the importance of their mentality, saying, “It’s all about the habits that we create and we do in situations, but it starts with just the mentality of it, just giving it all, knowing that you can be down 29 and claw all the way back.”
In the Finals, Brunson averages 29.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.0 assists, although his efficiency needs improvement with a field goal percentage of 39.6% against the Spurs’ strong defense. Despite this, his performance in Game 4 places the Knicks on the brink of a championship after more than 50 years.
Regarding Knicks fans, Brunson commented on their importance if Game 4 marks their last match at Madison Square Garden this season. “Obviously I love our fans, and they mean the world to me and to this organization. They deserve it, but I think most importantly, I just think that I just got to do what I’ve done and focus on what I got to do, and then I’ll answer your question later.”
