People with low interest rates on their mortgages are advised to hold onto them, yet a significant number are choosing to accelerate their payments. Financial planner Christopher Price recommends, “Financially speaking, if I have a 2.5 percent mortgage, I would rather pay them as slowly and as long as I can.”
However, current trends show a different approach among homeowners. Nearly one in four homeowners is paying off their mortgage faster than required. Surprisingly, those who stand to gain the most from this approach are less likely to pursue it.
This insight comes from an analysis by major lender Rocket Mortgage. They reviewed nearly 3 million of their loans across all 50 states over the past five years to uncover this trend.
