During a recent “Monday Night Football” game, the Buffalo Bills faced off against the Los Angeles Rams, where Matthew Stafford reached a significant milestone. Stafford, the current NFL Most Valuable Player, threw his 150th touchdown pass for the Rams. This achievement makes him the first quarterback in NFL history to record 150 touchdown passes with two different teams. Stafford previously played for the Detroit Lions from 2009 to 2020.
In the game against the Bills, Stafford exhibited exceptional skill, completing 40 of 54 passes for 383 yards and securing three touchdowns. Two of these scores came in the high-scoring fourth quarter, connecting with Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. His earlier touchdown pass to Adams in the second quarter showcased his consistent performance. However, despite this remarkable achievement, the Rams suffered a narrow loss. The team was close to winning against the Bills, aiming for a 3-2 record, but the overtime did not favor them.
“It was a thrilling clash at SoFi Stadium. Many viewed it as a potential Super Bowl preview,” reported on the match’s intensity.
Trailing 13-7 at halftime, the Rams made a comeback by scoring 27 points in the second half. Kyren Williams’ rushing touchdown brought the game level late in the fourth quarter, pushing it into overtime. Despite an opportunity after James Cook from the Bills fumbled twice, the Rams could not capitalize. Stafford positioned his team for a game-winning field goal, yet the attempt was blocked by Buffalo. Josh Allen then led the Bills down the field, culminating in Tyler Bass’s winning 45-yard field goal, clinching the game 37-34.
The loss results in a 2-3 season start for Stafford and the Rams, contrary to expectations that they would contend for next year’s Super Bowl. Injuries have plagued their season start, including Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett, acquired from the Cleveland Browns. Garrett currently resides on Injured Reserve due to knee surgery, and his return remains uncertain. Rams head coach Sean McVay emphasized the priority is for Garrett’s “return to performance” rather than merely playing.
Stafford’s record solidifies his status among top quarterbacks. He ranks sixth all-time in touchdown passes, needing over 70 more to surpass Brett Favre and claim the fifth spot.
