49ers Suffer Another Setback as Deebo Samuel Faces Weeks Out Due to Injury

The San Francisco 49ers are facing additional challenges after losing another wide receiver due to injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan informed reporters on Monday that Deebo Samuel will be out for at least a couple of weeks because of a hamstring strain. The 30-year-old sustained the injury during Sunday’s 32-29 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

This setback adds to a series of injuries plaguing the wide receiver position early in the season. Current injuries include Christian Kirk, Demarcus Robinson, and De’Zhaun Stribling. Moreover, Ricky Pearsall will not return this season following his PCL reconstruction surgery.

Samuel, who previously spent seven seasons with the 49ers, returned to San Francisco from the Washington Commanders in 2025 on a one-year contract. An All-Pro in 2021, Samuel has already made significant contributions this season, with 206 receiving yards, 79 rushing yards, and three touchdowns over five games. Additionally, he has returned 11 kickoffs for a total of 281 yards, aiding the team’s undefeated status.

The injury occurred during the third quarter of Sunday’s game when Samuel was hit by Seahawks linebacker Drake Thomas. After remaining on the ground, he was assisted off the field. Despite this, the 49ers ended the Week 5 match with four healthy wide receivers. Mike Evans stepped up to secure a major NFC West victory with 113 yards and a touchdown. Given the situation, general manager John Lynch might need to strengthen the team, as Jordan Watkins, among healthy receivers, has only managed two catches this season.

Shanahan’s announcement implies that Samuel will miss the opportunity to play against his former team when the 49ers face the Commanders on “Monday Night Football” next week. He might also be absent for Week 7’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, ahead of the team’s scheduled bye week.
