The New York Knicks pulled off an extraordinary comeback by overcoming a 29-point deficit against the San Antonio Spurs. This achievement marked the largest comeback in NBA Finals history.
Fans were ecstatic both inside and outside Madison Square Garden. Among them were several well-known personalities. Timothée Chalamet, a dedicated Knicks fan and Academy Award nominee, celebrated by removing his jacket and shirt, with his girlfriend Kylie Jenner present. Chalamet and actor Ben Stiller were seen joyfully jumping together in an NBA-shared video. Pop icon Taylor Swift donned a blue ‘Stevie Knicks’ shirt and waved a team towel while chanting as she exited the venue.
Other notable figures attending the game included movie director Spike Lee, tennis legend John McEnroe, actress Mariska Hargitay, and comedians Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David. Fans observed a rare emotional display from David, who is typically known for his deadpan demeanor.
Meanwhile, on the West Coast in Irvine, California, the U.S. men’s national soccer team took a break from preparing for their World Cup opener against Paraguay to watch the intense game. Avid Knicks fan Tyler Adams and his teammates were captured watching OG Anunoby’s game-winning tip-in with just 1.2 seconds left. In disbelief, some jumped over couches in celebration.
In New York, fans filled the streets after the win, waving flags and chanting. Some even climbed onto cars and lampposts. In Brooklyn’s Fort Greene, crowds gathered around a building projection of the game, while others watched from across the street. A verified video showed fans erupting with joy in a city bar, chanting ‘Let’s go, New York.’
Despite the celebrations, there was a negative incident as some Knicks fans threw objects at Spurs players, particularly star Victor Wembanyama, as they returned to their hotel.
Game 5 will take place on Saturday in Texas. With a 3-1 series lead, the Knicks are poised to win their first NBA title in 53 years if they secure another victory.
