Protesters Gather in NYC to Voice Concerns Over Mayor Mamdani’s Leadership
On a Tuesday evening in New York City, hundreds of people assembled near Gracie Mansion, the official residence of Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Waving both Israeli and American flags, they voiced their criticisms of the Democratic mayor’s leadership.
The protesters accused Mamdani of neglecting the Jewish community’s safety and overlooking antisemitism in the city. Well-known figures such as James Maslow, former star of ‘Big Time Rush,’ artist Scott LoBaido, and Brooke Goldstein, founder of the Lawfare Project, spoke at the event. Numerous pro-Israel advocates also addressed the crowd. The rally was organized by #EndJewHatred, a grassroots initiative combating antisemitism.
The gathering included chants like “remove Mamdani” and “USA, USA,” along with the singing of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Ari Ackerman, an entrepreneur and pro-Israel advocate, expressed disappointment with the current state of the city. He pointed out how Mamdani’s ideology has transformed New York, urging the crowd to recognize the changes.
During Mamdani’s campaign, friction with the Jewish community surfaced. Controversies included his stance on Israel, his refusal to denounce certain slogans, and connections to figures like Hasan Piker and Mahmoud Khalil. Tensions escalated since October 7, 2023, following Hamas’ attacks in Israel, accompanying a rise in antisemitic incidents in New York. This has left many Jewish residents feeling unsafe.
Rabbi Yaakov Menken remarked that Mamdani represents modern antisemitism.
The mayor’s reluctance to march in the upcoming Israel Day Parade drew criticism. This absence contradicts the tradition of New York mayors attending since 1964. Critics suggested the parade would be brought to Mamdani’s residence in response.
Anila Ali spoke against Mamdani, emphasizing unity among Muslims, Jews, and Christians. She accused him of using Islam as a divisive tool.
Many at the rally criticized Mamdani’s approach to public safety and his broader impact on the city’s future. They noted his reaction to incidents involving symbols of hate and expressed frustrations over perceived contradictions.
