Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., expressed his support for a short-term agreement with Iran following President Donald Trump’s announcement of a largely negotiated deal. Massie emphasized the immediate economic impact of the ongoing conflict, noting the rising fuel and farming costs affecting Americans.
“Heck yes, I would support it!” Massie stated on NBC’s “Meet the Press” when asked about backing a short-term Iran deal.
Massie, known for his criticism of U.S. military interventions, connected his support for the deal to the struggles faced by Kentucky families and farmers. He highlighted the burden of gas nearing $5 a gallon and diesel approaching $6 a gallon, alongside unaffordable fertilizers for local farmers.
Recently losing his Republican primary bid after seven Congressional terms, Massie defended his independent approach in Washington. He stressed that his independence and focus on constituents cost him politically.
“Since the day I got to Washington D.C., I’ve been doing this job like I thought people wanted you to do it,” Massie remarked.
Massie collaborated with Rep. Ro Khanna on bipartisan legislation, notably on Epstein files, showcasing his willingness to bridge partisan lines. Reflecting on his defeat, he suspected his bipartisan efforts made him a target.
“I think the biggest crime I committed against the swamp, Kristen, was showing the American people that somebody on the right could join somebody on the left and get something done,” Massie declared.
Campaign spending overwhelmed Massie’s re-election efforts, attributing his loss to expensive external influence.
As midterms approach, Massie warned Republicans about potential repercussions from various factions within Trump’s coalition, including anti-war voters and fiscal conservatives.
“There’s a growing number of people on the right who have a form of TDS called Trump disappointment syndrome,” Massie commented.
He criticized GOP leadership over budget negotiations, including opposition to funding certain projects endorsed by Trump.
“The ballroom, I mean that is such an egregious waste of money,” Massie criticized regarding the proposed White House ballroom.
Massie advocated prioritizing economic concerns over excessive spending and foreign commitments, likening the U.S. government’s behavior to that of historical empires.
President Trump announced on Truth Social that a deal with Iran had been negotiated, though formal details remained undisclosed. Efforts to reach Sen. Ted Cruz and Sen. Lindsey Graham for comment were unreturned by Fox News Digital.
