In recent discussions on the political podcast hosted by Yemisi Egbewole and Rich Zeoli, the implications of the Iran deal on the upcoming midterm elections were dissected. Rich Zeoli argued that the agreement benefits Republicans by bringing down gas and oil prices. On the other hand, Yemisi Egbewole expressed concerns about potential increases in food prices and the internal conflicts within the Democratic party.
Former President Trump celebrated the market’s positive reaction to the deal through a social media post. Meanwhile, Michael DeCillis, a former New York Police Department officer, emerged victorious in a Democratic primary held Tuesday evening. This win secured his nomination to challenge incumbent Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., in a significant race poised to influence the balance of power in the House of Representatives, presently held by Republicans with a narrow majority.
Michael DeCillis faces a challenging campaign for the seat in November, despite efforts by Democrats to flip Republican-held positions in New York. DeCillis is an advocate for counteracting congressional resistance to President Trump to stave off executive overreach.

According to his campaign website, Michael DeCillis is keenly aware of the ongoing erosion of democracy. He pledges to construct safeguards against threats to democratic rights and work towards a government that serves all citizens, not just the wealthiest individuals.
With his campaign, DeCillis emphasizes his extensive background in public service and strong connections within the New York community. He reflects on his family’s longstanding roots in Staten Island and union membership:
“In the next Congress, Mike will fight to build guardrails to protect our rights and ensure the government serves everyone—not just billionaires,” his campaign website asserts.
DeCillis highlights his tenure as an EMS paramedic for over ten years, his experiences as a 9/11 first responder aiding firefighters at Ground Zero, his patrols as a New York City police officer, and his teaching role in special education within public schools. Despite previous attempts in 2018 and 2022, where he withdrew before general elections, this marks his third run at claiming the seat.

Michael DeCillis is currently portraying Rep. Malliotakis as associated with MAGA Republicans, suggesting she is disconnected from New York’s politically diverse populace and characterizing her as a “MAGA loyalist.” He further expressed that figures like President Trump and Nicole Malliotakis undermine democracy domestically and disrupt international diplomacy and security.
Malliotakis recently voiced that Democrats ought to justify the introduction of transgender exhibits in the upcoming Smithsonian women’s history museum. Her last election victory occurred in 2024, where she defeated Andrea Morse, a lawyer and entrepreneur, with a substantial margin.
With the primary concluded, DeCillis is gearing up for the November 3 general election against Malliotakis.
