Paget Brewster, known for her role on “Criminal Minds,” apologized after criticizing an entertainment reporter. Brewster, who stars in the “Criminal Minds: Evolution” on Paramount+, initially reacted to an article by ScreenRant, specifically targeting writer Shealyn Scott.
In her post on X, Brewster addressed Scott directly, saying, “You’re young. You don’t know that bad pics and bad reviews can lead to 350 people losing their jobs. Sell vintage. Work at a shelter. Do something better than what you do now. Because right now you suck,” as reported by Variety. The post has since been deleted.
Facing backlash from critics and social media users, Brewster issued a public apology. She wrote, “Hi guys, I was mean to Shealyn Scott last night and I profoundly regret it. Shame on me for insulting a human being for doing their job. I’m very sorry, Shealyn. And I’m sorry to those who follow me that you saw me behave like that. Turns out, last night, I sucked.” Her X bio encourages kindness, stating, “I also love that we humans are all different but the same, too. Choose kindness.”
Scott responded by saying Brewster had apologized privately. She remains enthusiastic about covering “Criminal Minds,” sharing, “To be clear, Paget also reached out privately to apologize to me! Criminal Minds is still one of my all-time favorite shows, and I’m very excited to continue covering s19 (and hopefully beyond!)”
The ScreenRant article commented on the changes in the “Criminal Minds: Evolution” series, including fewer episodes and a shift to TV-MA ratings. Scott’s article opened with, “Criminal Minds: Evolution sometimes feels unrecognizable from the original series, but the biggest format change is finally catching up with Paramount+.”
She continued, “Plenty of the continuation’s changes have been received warmly, and Criminal Minds unquestionably still works as a gripping crime drama, but there are just as many tweaks that feel more like downgrades—including the new 10-episode season structure. Though logical in theory, the shortened seasons are unfortunately working against Criminal Minds’ greatest strengths.”
The original “Criminal Minds” aired on CBS from 2005 to 2020. Its streaming revival began in 2022, and the franchise is now in its 19th season.
