San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch previously stated that Brandon Aiyuk’s tenure with the team is effectively over, and teammate George Kittle appears supportive of this development.
The discord between Aiyuk and the 49ers has persisted for nearly a year. It began after the team nullified the remaining guaranteed money from his contract extension due to his absence from rehabilitation sessions. Aiyuk sustained a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus in his right knee during the 2024 season, and he has not returned to play since.
“I used to make it a habit to go out early in the morning before meetings to watch him train because he’d always be out there early, running over 22 miles an hour and stopping on a dime. He’s still got it, but that was eight months ago, so I don’t really know. You guys have fun with that, I guess,”
Kittle expressed during Barstool Sports’ podcast “Pardon My Take.”
The ongoing speculation suggests Aiyuk and the Washington Commanders may be a compatible fit. Aiyuk enthusiastically supported the Commanders in a recent Instagram video, chanting, “Go Commanders! Raise Hail! Take Command!”
This month, Aiyuk voiced his dissatisfaction with the 49ers, labeling them “dumb” and “stupid” regarding his extension. He asserted that the team fears releasing him due to his potential success elsewhere in the league.
Brandon Aiyuk has been on the reserve/left team list since December after ceasing his attendance at the team’s facility.
Before his 2024 injury, Aiyuk recorded 24 receptions for 374 yards during the season. In 2023, he had a standout performance with 1,342 yards, 75 receptions, and seven touchdowns, contributing significantly to the 49ers’ Super Bowl appearance.
