Shedeur Sanders, currently playing as quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, achieved substantial earnings through an alternative route. Although he missed out on the first-round draft pick monetary rewards in April 2025, Sanders earned an impressive $17.7 million in group licensing income during the 2025 season, according to Front Office Sports.
This income primarily stemmed from fan purchases of jerseys, trading cards, and other collectibles, setting a new record. Sanders surpassed Tom Brady, a legendary NFL quarterback, who earned $9.5 million in group licensing income during the 2021-22 season.
The contract Sanders signed with the Browns is valued slightly over $1 million annually. He agreed to a four-year, $4.647 million rookie deal before the 2025 season began. Sanders experienced a dramatic draft fall, as he was not selected until the third day when the Browns picked him.
Cleveland had previously drafted Dillon Gabriel from Oregon, another Heisman Trophy finalist, in the third round before selecting Sanders. Despite this, Sanders’ large fan base demonstrated their support through significant merchandise purchases.
Reports highlighted that Sanders likely received additional endorsement deals as he entered his professional football career, raising his total rookie season earnings to nearly $20 million.
Initially, Sanders had to wait for his opportunity with the Browns. Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco started the 2025 season under the now-former head coach Kevin Stefanski. However, Sanders made his first start in Week 12, leading the Browns to a 24-10 victory against the Las Vegas Raiders. In that game, he completed 11 out of 20 passes for 209 yards, including a touchdown and an interception.
Coach Stefanski declared Sanders the starter for the remainder of the season, given that Cleveland was out of the playoff race and focused on developing their rookie. Sanders ended the season with 1,400 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and ten interceptions, resulting in a 3-4 record over seven starts.
As Sanders enters the 2026 season, he must compete for the starting position. Deshaun Watson has returned to health, splitting first-team practice reps with Sanders under new head coach Todd Monken, previously with the Baltimore Ravens.
