Passengers preparing to board a Southwest Airlines flight at Memphis International Airport experienced a unique disruption on Sunday. As boarding commenced, a ground equipment vehicle collided with the aircraft. This incident led to the removal of Flight 4013 from service for further evaluation. Fortunately, no injuries were reported amidst the chaos.
According to an airline spokesperson, the collision at Memphis International Airport was described as an isolated incident. The Memphis Shelby County Airport Authority also confirmed the event in their statement, reiterating its solitary nature.
Southwest Airlines swiftly took action, redirecting passengers to a different plane to ensure travel plans continued as smoothly as possible. While spokespersons mentioned that the alternate aircraft would continue to Dallas, the company’s website indicated that Flight 4013 was rescheduled to reach Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. This adjustment resulted in a departure delay of almost four hours, rescheduling arrival from 1:50 p.m. to approximately 5:30 p.m.
Southwest Airlines is committed to investigating the collision thoroughly, ensuring the highest safety standards for customers and employees.
Safety remains a priority for Southwest Airlines, with the incident being examined through their Safety Management System. The airline promises careful attention to detail in the investigation process to uphold its commitment to the well-being of all involved.
