St. Charles Fine Art Show: A Celebration of Art and Community
Cloudy Skies Can’t Dim Artistic Spirit
Despite overcast conditions, the St. Charles Fine Art Show attracted many visitors with its vibrant display of creativity. Debbie Kusek, a resident of Carol Stream, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “It’s always sunny in the world of art.” She believes in the inspiration art provides, exploring various oil paintings at the show.
Annual Tradition Showcases Diverse Art
The St. Charles Fine Art Show, organized by the St. Charles Business Alliance and sponsors, marked its 28th year. Held along Riverside Avenue, the show featured over 110 juried artists. The artwork on display included ceramics, digital art, wood, sculpture, jewelry, glass, oil, watercolors, and photography. Jenna Sawicki, executive director of the Alliance, noted that artists were chosen from a pool of over 150 applications. More than half of the participants were returning artists, complemented by newcomers to keep the exhibit fresh.
Connecting Artists and Community
The event welcomes artists not only from the surrounding areas but also from states such as Colorado, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, and Canada. The show attracted around 10,000 visitors over the weekend, creating a symbiotic relationship between local businesses and art appreciators. Sawicki emphasized the importance of driving traffic to local merchants while celebrating art’s beauty and creativity.
“Having people visit an art show is vital, especially now, to appreciate art and witness creativity,” said Sawicki.
Artists’ Perspectives
John Carman, an artist originally from Wayne, now residing in Free Soil, Michigan, spoke highly of the event’s organization. He appreciated its layout and the familiarity with visitors. Carman shared, “The people that run the show here are fantastic.” Evan Bierman, a local resident, attended with his daughter Sophie, seeking art to decorate their new home. As he admired photo prints by Chris Bergstrom from Omaha, Evan remarked on the wide array of creative expressions available for his family.
The event highlighted art’s role in providing joy and supporting creativity, reinforcing the significant connection between the community and its celebration of artistic endeavors.
