“Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan shared concerns with Joe Rogan about the implications of Democrats refusing to recognize President Donald Trump’s legitimacy. Sheridan believes this attitude endangers the rule of law, especially in the post-COVID era.
During his terms, President Trump faced substantial resistance from significant institutions. This ranged from sanctuary cities rejecting cooperation with federal agents to officials actively opposing his directives as commander-in-chief. On the grassroots level, some questioned the legitimacy of his presidency. The COVID-19 pandemic further affected trust in America’s institutions, a point Sheridan discussed with Rogan.
“I think in 30 years when they look back, like we are still suffering from a society from COVID, not so much from the disease itself, but from our faith in the institutions around us,” Sheridan said. “Whether it’s government, whether it’s the media, whether it’s pharmaceutical companies.”
Sheridan also addressed a military concept, the initiative to win “hearts and minds” of adversaries, which he felt was effective in Japan during World War II but not elsewhere.
America faces an internal issue, Sheridan warned. “You can like Trump or not like Trump,” Sheridan continued, noting the danger of disregarding laws simply due to disapproval of a president.
“When a president you support takes office, the other side might follow the same precedent, eroding the rule of law,” Sheridan stated.
Joe Rogan expressed concern about illegal immigration, agreeing they should be addressed. However, he cautioned that militarizing police might allow misuse by future administrations.
Rogan stated, “The slippery slope is very dangerous,” indicating how the current approaches could set the stage for undesirable consequences.
Sheridan followed up, “Politicians right now are doing us a tremendous disservice because they’re not thinking beyond this next election.” He speculated they might have hidden this attitude better in the past.
