Taylor Swift delivered a heartfelt speech at the Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Gala in New York. Her voice, affected by cheering at a recent Knicks game, conveyed sincerity and humor throughout her 21-minute address.
During her speech, Swift highlighted the importance of trusting intuition over industry metrics. She shared insights into her songwriting journey, noting how personal experience and creativity played key roles in her success.
“Now more than ever, in an industry that seems to be consumed by metrics, data, analytics and we’re all trying to predict whether something will trend or not, writers need to trust their human intuition,”
Swift explained how her dedication to songwriting helped her identify which ideas truly mattered. She mentioned her hit songs like “Love Story” and “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version),” which became significant works in her career.
Swift recalled a moment during the creation of “Love Story.” She had to finish the song on her own after a writing session where her concept wasn’t immediately understood. This experience underlined her message about following one’s instincts.
This year’s inductees at the Songwriters Hall of Fame included notable figures such as Walter Afanasieff, and Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of Kiss, among others. Before Swift took the stage, Steven Spielberg introduced her with an ode to her contributions to music, hailing her as a phenomenon comparable to American songwriting legends.
