Former NYPD Detective Faces Second-Degree Murder Charge
Victor Romero, a former NYPD detective, is now facing a second-degree murder charge. The charge follows a grand jury indictment related to the fatal shooting of Koran Irvine, 46. The incident took place on the George Washington Bridge in New York City. Romero, who had been employed as a driver and security guard for a hedge fund, is accused of shooting Irvine in a suspected road rage incident.
Support from Colleagues and Community
Numerous Con Edison workers appeared in court on Tuesday to support Irvine’s family. More than a hundred people, including colleagues, friends, and family, gathered at a rally in Foley Square, Manhattan. This rally expressed their outrage over the killing of Irvine. The event was organized by the Utility Workers Union of America Local 1 & 2.
“We’re brothers here,”said a Con Edison employee outside the courthouse, as reported by FOX 5 NY.
Irvine worked for Con Edison for 20 years. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
Details of the Incident
The deadly shooting incident is still under investigation by the NYPD. Surveillance footage allegedly shows Romero tailgating Irvine aggressively before pulling up alongside his car and firing a fatal shot. The shooting occurred on October 20. Following the incident, authorities launched a 24-hour manhunt to locate Romero, who is also reported to have posted a $1 million bail.
Legal Proceedings and Reactions
Romero, who pleaded not guilty to initial manslaughter charges, appeared in court with his attorney and private security. He refrained from commenting to the press outside the courthouse. Romero’s next court appearance is scheduled for November 23 for a Supreme Court arraignment.
Fox News Digital reached out to Alan Abramson, Romero’s attorney, who was unavailable for immediate comment.
