August LaBranche, senior quarterback for Crete-Monee, has seamlessly adjusted to his new role. LaBranche’s skills in misdirection and timing have become pivotal for the Warriors, who favor a diverse running game to baffle defenses. While passing plays are less frequent than in previous years, LaBranche’s performance remains essential. He practices tirelessly to maintain this level of deception and effectiveness.
LaBranche emphasized the importance of this practice, stating, “We practice it a lot. It’s fun to fake the defense out and score touchdowns.” He embraces the system’s demands, saying, “I’ll adjust to any system I need to adjust to.” This commitment was evident when the Warriors gained 456 rushing yards in a decisive 43-6 victory over Bloom in Chicago Heights.
Dominic Jackson played a key role, rushing for 102 yards and scoring two touchdowns on only eight carries. He also passed for a touchdown and made a notable defensive impact with a sack and two tackles for loss. The LaBranche brothers, August and Anson, have been integral in their twinship. Anson, like his brother, contributed with defensive prowess, securing a sack.
Jovarion Wilson scored Bloom’s lone touchdown with a 4-yard rush. Bloom’s Isaiah Dunlap managed 47 passing yards and 32 rushing yards. Meanwhile, the LaBranche twins proud to play side by side, enhanced their chemistry through joint field endeavors. “We have a lot of chemistry, and being out on the field together helps us make plays,” August remarked.
Anson expressed pride in August’s quarterback role, noting, “I think he’s doing pretty good with the system he’s in.” He commended August’s adaptability to the challenging system, which includes managing various motions and passing plays.
The Warriors’ coach, John Konecki, praised August’s adaptability, stating, “August has done a fantastic job with this offense.” He noted August’s ability to distribute the ball effectively among his teammates. In their recent game, August scored with a 4-yard run and a 17-yard TD pass to Aven Atkins, securing a 43-0 halftime lead for Crete-Monee.
Anson’s contributions extend beyond defense. His effective blocking is invaluable, and his versatility allowed him to play Wildcat quarterback. Reflecting on this, Anson enjoyed experiencing the quarterback position, understanding what August manages on the field.
Reflecting on their childhood and teamwork, August shared, “Growing up, sometimes we lifted each other up, sometimes we fought, like any other brothers.” Grateful for Anson’s support, August added, “We’ve always gone to the field together, always practiced together. He’s always there when I need him.”
