DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks are in the process of securing a deal with Dusty May, the coach of the national champion Michigan team, for him to transition from college basketball to the NBA. This information comes from a source who chose to remain anonymous because the agreement has not yet been finalized.
Dusty May’s tenure with the Wolverines was marked by significant achievements. He led Michigan to an NCAA championship, clinching victory with a 69-63 win against UConn this past April, completing a remarkable season with a record of 34 wins and 3 losses. Marvelously, they began their NCAA Tournament run as the inaugural team to score 90 or more points in five consecutive games.
Prior to his success with Michigan, the 49-year-old May was the head coach at Florida Atlantic, where he achieved the milestone of guiding the Owls to their first-ever Final Four appearance. The team returned to the NCAA tournament in 2024, shortly before May took on his role with Michigan.
Dusty May is slated to replace Jason Kidd, following Kidd’s departure two weeks after Masai Ujiri was brought onboard as the president of basketball operations and alternate governor for the Mavericks.
