Federal Investigation into Gender-Related Care for Minors at Mount Sinai
The Mount Sinai Health System disclosed receiving a grand jury subpoena requesting details about adolescent patients who received gender-related care. On Friday, a spokesperson confirmed this information.
This marks the second instance of a Manhattan hospital publicly stating that its treatments for minors undergoing gender transitions are under federal investigation. The Trump administration argues such treatments are harmful to young individuals.
Previously, NYU Langone made a public statement about receiving a subpoena aimed at identifying all patients under 18 who had sought gender-related treatments since 2020. This subpoena, like the one served to Mount Sinai, was issued by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas, as per hospital reports.
Mount Sinai’s spokeswoman, Lucia Lee, emphasized their commitment to protecting patient privacy. She mentioned the hospital plans to provide only de-identified information that excludes any patient identification if it is required to submit records.
According to the statement, New York law mandates that hospitals inform patients if their records are produced. Mount Sinai acknowledged this obligation.
