Freshman shortstop Dallas Bowen has quickly made her mark at Hanover Central, impressing teammates and coaches alike. Senior catcher Sienna Stilley, headed to Jacksonville State, praises Bowen’s performance and leadership qualities. Stilley said, “I choose her every single time. Dallas is immensely talented and hardworking, embodying a veteran’s composure in critical game moments.”
Bowen’s contributions have been crucial as the Wildcats boast a 25-6 record. They won the Northwest Crossroads Conference title and stand at No. 10 in the state coaches poll. With New Palestine ranked No. 7, Bowen looks to shine in their upcoming Class 3A state championship game.
Bowen’s stats highlight her prowess: .371 batting average, six home runs, four triples, five doubles, 28 RBIs, 38 runs scored, and ten stolen bases. Her sixth homer, a key three-run play, sparked Hanover Central’s win against East Noble in the semistate final.
“It’s been great timing,” noted Hanover Central coach Sam Antkiewicz, on Bowen replacing his daughter at shortstop. “Dallas fits in excellently. She is determined, works hard, and is a gamer with a winning spirit.”
Bowen aims to contribute to the Wildcats’ legacy after their 2002 Class 2A state title and last year’s runner-up finish. She appreciates her team’s support, stating, “Even if I’m down, someone lifts me up. I never feel alone.”
As Bowen inspires her teammates, Stilley acknowledges her influence. “Dallas is motivating, always encouraging, and seeking to improve mentally and physically. Her dedication is truly uplifting.”
Bowen, following in the footsteps of brothers Drayk and Dylan, both accomplished athletes, embraces the family dynamic. Drayk leads Notre Dame as a senior linebacker next year, while Dylan, a recent Hanover Central graduate, has high prospects in the MLB draft.
“Watching my brothers succeed fuels my drive,” Bowen said, expressing her ambition to play competitively in top Southern colleges like Texas, Florida, or Oklahoma.
Stilley is confident in Bowen’s potential, claiming, “Dallas has all the tools needed to excel. Her resilience and positive attitude set her apart.”
With aspirations to thrive, Bowen looks forward to competing in the state championship with her teammates. New Palestine, boasting six state titles, presents a formidable challenge. Yet, Bowen remains optimistic. “It’s exciting, a new experience, and our group’s unity makes it enjoyable. We’re always pushing each other forward.”
