The UnPopulist, an independent publication focused on defending liberal democracy from authoritarianism, reports on recent findings that highlight a shift in voter attitudes.
According to a survey conducted by the Institute for the Study of Modern Authoritarianism (ISMA), voters who supported Kamala Harris in the presidential election have shown growing cynicism toward America’s elites since 2024. This survey, a follow-up to an earlier one conducted in August 2024 before the presidential election, reveals significant changes in voter perceptions.
In the 2024 survey, 59% of potential Harris voters strongly believed that at least one of six American elites had acted against people like them for selfish reasons. By June of this year, this percentage increased to 69% among those who reported having voted for Harris. This represents a notable 10-point rise, marking the only statistically significant change among Harris voters concerning the four populist attitudes that the survey tracks.
