Jack Schlossberg, grandson of John F. Kennedy, is experiencing challenges in the Democratic primary for New York’s 12th Congressional District. Recent polls place him in third position, marking a difficult path in his high-profile campaign.
During a campaign event in Manhattan, Schlossberg ran against the clock on the final days of his campaign. His political ads featured high-profile figures like Nancy Pelosi and his mother, Caroline Kennedy. Supporters at his Upper East Side events were predominantly high schoolers and retirees.
The closing event at Terminal 5 had sparse attendance. It blended nostalgic references to his grandfather with modern elements, such as Kesha songs, in an attempt to appeal to younger voters. Yet, despite the Kennedy legacy, running in one of the nation’s influential and affluent districts proved challenging.
The primary race is contested by other notable candidates. Micah Lasher, the chosen successor of Representative Jerrold Nadler, joins the race along with Alex Bores, who has support and criticism from the AI industry. George Conway, a vocal critic of the former president, and global vaccine expert Nina Schwalbe are also key competitors.
Schlossberg’s campaign has grappled with internal issues, as reports surfaced about a disorganized approach and shifting staff. This led to a sharp decline in polling numbers. Attempting to regain control of his campaign’s narrative, Schlossberg positioned himself as a social media-savvy candidate battling against ‘dark money.’ However, his description of youthful vigor is countered by the fact that Alex Bores, a frontrunner, is only slightly older at 35.
In efforts to counteract the influence of wealth backing his opponents, Schlossberg invested at least $1 million of his own finances into his campaign.
