As the primary election approaches, Los Angeles mayoral candidates are intensifying their campaigns to secure voter support.
Mayor Karen Bass focused on rallying labor union workers, drawing large crowds chanting for her re-election. Accompanied by prominent Democratic figures, Bass made a strong case for continuing her leadership.
City Councilmember Nithya Raman adopted a grassroots approach, visiting local businesses in an eye-catching yellow Scout convertible. Her strategy included engaging with small business owners and sharing her policy plans.
Former reality TV star Spencer Pratt hosted a community block party in Baldwin Village, aiming to connect with Black residents. Despite his celebrity status, Pratt emphasized listening to community concerns over media attention.
Polls indicate a tight race between the candidates. Bass leads with 26%, followed by Raman at 25%, and Pratt at 22%. The primary’s top two will advance to a November runoff, unless a candidate secures over 50% of the vote.
Pratt has committed to being a community voice. During the Baldwin Village event, he engaged personally with residents, highlighting his intent to address homelessness and drug addiction issues.
Raman remains focused on policy and direct voter engagement. Her recent policy plan aims to support small businesses, and she joined volunteers in preparing meals for those experiencing homelessness.
Bass held a community event in Eagle Rock, joined by several local politicians. She reviewed her accomplishments in addressing homelessness and supporting Hollywood’s growth, encouraging supporters to continue backing her.
On Sunday, Raman continued her outreach, connecting with graduate students and phone bank groups. Her campaign aims to spread her vision for Los Angeles without relying on major political backing.
Pratt’s Sunday activities were more subdued, opting for personal connections in Latino neighborhoods near downtown.
As the primary election nears, all candidates remain focused on capturing voter attention and outlining their plans for the future of Los Angeles.
