Massive Brawl Erupts at South Carolina River Hangout
A chaotic scene unfolded at the 601 Sand Bar on the Congaree River in Calhoun County, South Carolina, as a large brawl broke out, attracting widespread attention. On June 6, numerous videos captured the incident, showing people engaged in multiple fights while crowds gathered to watch and record the spectacle on their phones.
In one video clip, several individuals were seen throwing punches, and others were trying to intervene. Another segment showed fighters grappling and exchanging blows in knee-deep water as onlookers shouted. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office reported that the confrontation led to six arrests and an ongoing investigation.
The injuries were severe,” commented Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers, emphasizing the situation’s gravity.
Authorities have linked the chaos to alcohol and underage drinking, although the exact cause of the violence remains unidentified. Sheriff Summers remarked on the dangers of mixing water and alcohol, highlighting that such settings could be unsuitable for families due to potential for violence.
The incident occurred during the annual Sparkleberry Duck Run, which attracts boaters and enthusiasts to the Congaree River. Six individuals have been arrested, identified as Brendan Bonds, Hunter Dalzell, Lucas Scott, Edward Scott, Austin Mizzell, and Taylor Knudson. They face charges related to assault and breach of peace.
The sheriff’s office is actively investigating the incident and expects further arrests as more evidence, including video footage, comes to light. Sheriff Summers has reiterated that such behavior is unacceptable and urges anyone with information to come forward.
