Police Officers Challenge Federal Fund Linked to Capitol Riot
Two U.S. Capitol police officers have taken legal action against a significant federal fund proposed by the Trump administration. They argue that this fund, totaling nearly $1.8 billion, contradicts federal law and poses a risk of legitimizing political violence.
Officers Harry Dunn and Daniel Hodges, who actively protected the Capitol during the January 6, 2021, riot, initiated the lawsuit on Wednesday. They aim to halt the distribution of compensation to individuals who perceive themselves as victims of a so-called ‘weaponized’ legal system.
This case marks the first known legal challenge against the fund, reflecting concerns over its implications on the perception of political violence in the United States.
